What Is the Origin of The Name Futsal?
Futsal is derived from two words: futbol sala or futbol de salón in Spanish, and futebol de salo in Portuguese (all translatable as “indoor football”). The Spanish word futbol sala was used during the second world championships, which were held in Madrid in 1985. Following a dispute with FIFA over the word futbol, the World Futsal Association registered the name futsal in 1985. Since then, futsal has become the officially recognized and internationally acknowledged moniker, with FIFA adopting the term as well. History of Futsal

Futsal Game Positions
Futsal is conducted with a total of five on-field players in a team – one keeper and four players on the field. Replacements can be used anytime during the game. By design of the small court size, all participants should participate in both attack and defense action.
Goalkeeper
The goalkeeper is an extremely important position because he or she determines the final score. This is usually a teammate who is unable to run or is injured but can still assist the team. Having a shooter in goal almost guarantees postseason success at the end of the season.
Defender or Fixo
The captain and/or the team manager are usually on the side. On and off the court, the person who puts in the most effort. Last-ditch defensive efforts to prevent the opposition from scoring, as well as the player who assists the goalkeeper the most. This is a top-of-the-line product. ALA or Left and Right-Wing

Futsal Rules
- Five players will face five players, one of whom will be the goalkeeper. It is expected that each player will have to play goalkeeper for a few minutes. This will be organized by SFUSA coaches.
- Substitutions on the fly, like in hockey game
- There are no offsides.
- There will be no goalkeeper turnovers, and the ball must stay below head height; otherwise, the opposing team will be awarded possession and a penalty kick.
- There are no slide tackles allowed, and players should not go to the floor to reclaim possession.
- There will be no sideline throw-ins. Instead, the ball is placed on the ground and kicked to a teammate.
- Corner kicks and free kicks. The opposing team must be at least 5 yards from the ball.
- Except for the penalty kicker, all players are behind the ball during a penalty kick.
